all male review: game of thrones season 1

The first season of Game of Thrones has come to a conclusion and boy oh boy, what a season it was. We were introduced to some really sexy characters and some of the most seductive plot twists that we have ever seen on cable television. HBO has just proved once again why they are the leaders in original programming.

Without giving away any spoilers, the plot of Game of Thrones revolves around a dozen or so main characters, most notably the Kingslayer Jaime Lannister. He is a hunky knight who could have any man in the kingdom, but for some reason chooses to hook up with his twin sister (YUCK!) the Queen of Kings Landing. She is a totally stuck up bitch who is married to the gross and fat King Robert, a drunken oaf. Together they have a son named Joffrey, and he is the cutest thing ever. Prince Joffrey does have a bit of a temper and is somewhat selfish, but he does posses that Bad Boy quality that is so attractive. Jaime and the Queen have a brother, a dwarf named Tyrion who spends his riches on booze and whores. There is not much to say about Tyrion other than he is short….between his legs. The most prominent hero is Ned Stark the ruggedly good-looking Kings Hand. An old friend of King Robert, Ned has a bastard son named Jon Snow and a couple other kids who sucked and brought the show down. However Snow is a total stud muffin and probably the hottest boy in Winterfell, but he is sworn to go serve the Kingdom by guarding some big wall of ice to keep zombies from getting into the villages… And finally in some other part of the world, Game of Thrones introduces us to some buff horseback riding Warriors. They ride around shirtless showing off their huge pecs and bulging biceps, Yum. Their leader and manliest man is the total package, probably 6’4 with dark hair and some nice facial hair, but he does shave his chest and has some very nice abs. Unfortunately he is married to some ugly bitch who has something to do with dragons. I didn’t pay any attention to the story when these characters were on my television because they had no interaction with the main storyline.

Game of Thrones boosts some nice visuals, a high production value and quality acting. I was a bit worried when I started watching the first episode, thinking that it might suck, since fantasy based shows are usually very corny. I was also afraid that they would spend too much time following the female characters, luckily we get a healthy dose of Kinslayer Jaime Lannister for the first 4 episodes. Each episode usually ended with a big plot twist that would make you thirsty for the next episode, but at an hour an episode the pacing was a bit tiresome. I would have a hard time following all the names of all the characters in each episode, and often times major plot points revolved around a dead character who was never shown in the actual show. I found myself pulling up the character list off Wikipedia on my phone so I could keep up with the show and know exactly what was going on. After the first five or six episodes I was really able to know what was going on at all times and the show started to pay off…until major characters started getting killed off! OMGz!!1!!!! How the hell are they going to have a 2nd season without some of these characters?  It seemed more like a mini-series rather than the first season of a new show. It is based on a series of books though, so I am sure that there is plenty of story to be told, and the main story line never does reach a conclusion.

Overall the show is very well done and after a few episodes you should be hooked in, and you’ll be waiting to see more of Jaime Lannister and Ned Stark. I wish they would have shown a little more skin on the males instead of constantly showing topless women. I wish the episodes were a little shorter. I wish Sean Bean would do something outside of the fantasy genre. I wish the show had a little more action…. But I can’t complain too much, it’s worth watching for any nerd. I give it 8 Sexy Jaime Lannisters out of 10.
